'Right of Conscience' Controversy
Submitted by dooblabox on Tue, 12/30/2008 - 11:10.Last week on December 18th, President Bush announced another midnight hour deregulation. A bill to allow medical professionals to refuse care that they felt was morally or religiously offensive.

The rule comes after months of medical controversies relating to the same matter. As early as August of 2007 battles between conservative doctors and their patients began appearing. USA TODAY twice reported doctors refusing care to homosexuals for religious reasons.
Not until last week, however, had the practice been put down into law. Now doctors who choose to implement their values at work are protected under the umbrella of the United States government. Any state or local government, health plan, medical office, and so on which does not allow doctors to follow their conscience will no longer be funded by the federal government.

Cheney says President "fully justified" in War Decisions, Congress Fights Back
Submitted by dooblabox on Sun, 12/28/2008 - 16:54.
Cheney's interview on Sunday, the 21st, with "Fox News Sunday" ended up being his most open, most controversial interview yet. As the Bush Administration comes to its end, Cheney has appeared on a number of interviews-- with ABC, Fox, New York Times, and others. Tearing down any and all guards, Cheney spoke honestly about what he thought the President was allowed to do. Cheney answered his questions with confidence and class. But this is not to say the interview was received well. Many were suprised to hear Vice President Cheney defend the President's expanded war powers so staunchly and without regret.

College Applications - The reason I've been scarce as of late
Submitted by AvaLowery on Wed, 12/10/2008 - 22:26.The good news is that I've finished most of my college applications. I should have all my applications submitted by the end of this week.
I'm applying to or have already applied to:
UCLA
Berkeley
NYU
Harvard
UT Austin
Alabama
I'm also considering applying to Ithaca College and Boston University. I've filled out apps for both, but am not sure whether I'm going to send them in yet. Application fees are crazy expensive!
I'm looking to major in film. Surprised?
I've been keeping busy lately with the stress of finishing up SAT subject testing(which I've finally finished) and sending in college applications. It is both a scary and exciting time in my life right now!
I am hoping to have a new video out soon - before Christmas. I'll make an effort to blog more now that I'm almost done with the application process.
Wish me luck!

Treasury Being Critized for Poorly Distrubuting the Bailout
Submitted by dooblabox on Wed, 12/03/2008 - 19:22.When the the bailout was first announced at the end of September, the media could talk about nothing else. It has been over two months and new economic troubles have changed the focus of the news. The 700 dollar billion bailout was made with a somewhat arbitrary goal. In general, the Bush administration wanted to boost the economy-- but in what specific ways would the money be used, the public never really knew. But Wall Street was desolate and Henry Paulson had an army of support from various economists. Although the public had and still has no say in the government's funding discretion, it is still fundamental to our nation that the public stays alert and informed.

Building a New Team
Submitted by dooblabox on Tue, 12/02/2008 - 08:09.As Barack Obama and his advisors have just started creating the new administration, few positions have been officially filled. The US Government directly employs over a thousand people. The executive branch is in charge of hiring 15 heads of departments, including Department of Homeland Security, Energy, Health and Human Services, and more. The President Elect has to choose his Secretary of State, his many advisors, counselors, and assistants.

Don't Forget
Submitted by AvaLowery on Tue, 11/25/2008 - 20:41.With all the excitement about the election of Barack Obama people seem to be forgetting things - extremely important things. So I've compiled a very short list of just a few of these things that we cannot afford to put on the back burner.
* Over 4,200 American troops have been killed in the War in Iraq.
* Over 600 American troops have been killed in Afghanistan, and this year has been the deadliest year for US troops in that war.
* The national debate has passed 10 TRILLION dollars.
* Our relationships with countries around the world have deteriorated thanks to the foreign policy(or lack thereof) of the Bush Administration.
* Ignoring and isolating Iran isn't working. We need a new approach.
* Almost 50 million Americans have no health care coverage whatsoever, and millions more are struggling to pay for the coverage they do have.
